How To Find Your Baking Style?

It's an art form where imagination is king.

It can effortlessly transport you to heaven and put you in a pleasant mood even on the worst of days.

It makes you want to invest in fancy rolling pins, cute fondant embossers, or chic bread boxes.

Wondering what we are talking about?

Baking!

If you’ve started exploring and falling in love with baking, the only question now is: how do you discover your baking style?

 Let's find out!

1.   Don’t Be Afraid To Question Yourself

Approach your time in the kitchen with a sense of wonder.

You might make some fantastic discoveries if you're open to new flavor combinations, techniques, and recipes.

As you bite into your freshly baked banana bread that you cannot wait to display on your rustic bread box, ask yourself: What are the textures like? What are the many flavors I'm picking up on?

You might ponder, what spin might I put on this pretzel recipe next time? What would make this recipe better?

What if I added this or that, cooked it for a different length of time, or added the ingredients differently?

These curious questions may take you out of your comfort zone, but that's where all the magic happens!

2.   Think Outside The Box

It's all too easy to become stuck in a baking rut if you've been baking for a while.

Perhaps you have a few go-to recipes that you know by heart.

Sure, your signature baguettes might turn out wonderful every single time and look just as pretty whenever you store them inside your beautiful countertop bread box.

However, as a creative cook, the same flavors, decoration, and presentation can become monotonous after a time.

Even the most seasoned cooks change up their recipes and dishes regularly. Experiment, make mistakes, and learn from them!

It will help you find your true baking style and keep you inspired as a baker.

3.   Consider Failures As Opportunities To Learn

Baking disasters are an excellent way to learn what not to do.

When something doesn't work out the way you intended, take advantage of the opportunity to figure out why and learn what to do instead.

What went wrong, in your opinion? What should you do differently next time? What skills do you need to master?

For your creativity to unveil itself, you must keep accepting and embracing all that you are, and that includes taking on your mistakes as well.

The more mistakes you make, the more you'll learn about, appreciate and enjoy baking, and the more distinct your baking style will become.

4.   Don’t Compare Yourself To Others

Yes, comparisons can sometimes show you how to improve and motivate you to make changes. But in today's digital age, more often than not, these comparisons can make you overanalyze every single flaw of yours.

You may feel like storing your freshly baked pita bread in your favorite custom-made bread box, but you end up using a retro-style bread bin just to make it suit the aesthetics of your Instagram page.

It's these little things. Once you start down that road, you never find an end.

So don't be swayed by the opinions of others. When you learn to let loose, that's when you find your true baking style.

5.   Consistency Is Key

Let's get it straight: you will not be able to find your baking style until you commit to following a consistent plan of action.

You need to make sure you don't give up the moment things seem to get a little rough.

It's all too simple for us to look at successful bakers and assume they've always had their unique flair. But what we don't see is that getting to their style required hundreds, if not thousands, of attempts.

To uncover your unique baking style, you need patience, practice, and tenacity. The more consistent and dedicated you are, the more likely you are to stand out.

Happy Baking!

Your baking style is unique to you, and it's something you'll have to figure out for yourself. Experiment and discover the joys of baking.

Whatever baking style you prefer, accept it and have fun with it. After all, that's what it's all about!
